BOB WINS HIS OWN TOURNAMENT!!
On Friday 18th May we played a Stableford competition at Bonalba sponsored by Bob Tucker. The course was in a very disappointing condition with the greens in particular very unresponsive and lacking any consistency. This however did not detract fro
m some very good scoring and produced a runaway winner in the shape of today's sponsor, Bob Tucker, who scored a great 42 points from his 14.3 handicap (now 12.5!). Ed Wallace (8.1) took second spot with 36 points equalled by Denise Cooper (22.4) who had to settle for third place on handicap. With Bob not taking a prize for his win, we went down to fourth place and this went, on handicap, to Neil Carter (8.0) with 34 points beating Russ Peters, Tony Carroll, Arthur Burrowes and Peter Twine!
Nearest the pins went to Neil on the 4th, where he also had a two and Paddy Caffrey at the 16th. There was a longest drive competition on the 15th with Feli Baybut taking the honours for the ladies and Neil adding to his bottle collection by winning the mens! There was one other two and that went to Ed Wallace.

NEIL IS THE FOURTH FOUNDERS DAY CHAMPION
We had a great day at Oliva Nova for the fourth playing of our Founders Day Medal competition. This was again generously sponsored by Russ Peters with some great prizes on offer to celebrate our third anniversary of existence! The course was playing very well despite the problems with the twelfth and fourteenth fairways which to be fair are being worked on for improvement.
Scores on t
he day were excellent and it was great to see that there was only one "No Return", and that because the player could not complete the course because of illness. The main man however was again Neil Carter with a fabulous net 67 (gross 78) off his handicap of 9.0-he played the front nine in a gross 37! There was a great tussle for the next three places with three members scoring net 69's and the order being decided on countback. In second place and making a great effort to defend her title was Fran Dickinson (27.4), who certainly seems to enjoy this format, with the consistent Neil Cuming (12.7) taking third spot ahead off the improving Stella Fox (20.6) in fourth. Fifth place was also decided on countback with Bob Edwards (9.0) the winner and Arthur Burrowes (18.0), the player to miss out.
Nearest the pins were won by Stella at the 3rd and Neil Carter on the 16th with Richard Morris taking the second shot honours on the 5th and Steve Legg on the 18th. Pat Casson-Smith and Simon Fox were the recipients of the longest drive prizes on hole 9 with Martin Gates (86) taking the mens prize for the best gross score outside of the top 5 and Celia Cronin (90) the ladies. Two's today for coveted Montgo balls went to Neil Carter, Russ Peters, Sally Burrowes and Bob Edwards. In the Eclectic competition, there are new joint leaders, George Braddick and Sally Burrowes leapfrogging the absent Mick Farmer to jointly lead with net 64.2's both from 21.1
We enjoyed a very good lunch at the Albatros Restaurant at Oliva Nova Golf after the event and would like to thank the staff for their excellent service and attention.

PETER TAMES THE WIND AT EL BOSQUE
Our first visit to El Bosque during 2012 took place on Friday 20th April with today's game sponsored by Richard Morris . One of our favourite courses to play and we were not disappointed finding it in absolutely superb condition with extremely slick and quick greens. However, a very strong westerly wind made the actual playing conditions very difficult indeed resulting in the average score for the d
ay being as low as 24 points. As a consequence the CBA came into play and all buffer zones were reduced by 3 shots!
Peter Chapman however made light of these conditions and scored an excellent 36 points from his recently reduced handicap of 22 wining the top prize by 5 points. In that second place was Ed Wallace (8.1) beating Neil Cuming (12.7) on handicap with both players scoring 31 points. There was a fourth prize today and that went to Ron Steele with 30 points from 16.3. There were two nearest the pins but we all failed to get on the 14th green, so the only winner was one of our guests, Eric Newman, who took the honours on the 4th. The only two of the day went to our sponsor, Richard Morris, on the 8th.
The final match in the 1st round of the singles was completed which proved a very tight and exciting affair with Ed Wallace beating George Braddick on the 18th.
